How the local config checks work

What it does

Paste your config and this tool compares it with a set of rules about common settings. It looks at what you already have, guesses how you work (for example, whether you use Vim-style keys), and suggests changes grouped into performance, productivity, appearance, workflow, compatibility, and security.

Leave the box empty to browse every suggestion instead. Each one explains what it changes and why, and you choose which ones to keep before building an updated config.

Step by step

  1. Paste your .tmux.conf and click Analyze My Config, or leave the box empty and click Browse All Suggestions.
  2. Read each suggestion and its reason. Skip anything that doesn't fit how you work.
  3. Pick the suggestions you want and copy them into your config.
  4. Reload tmux and test the changes one at a time, so you know which one did what.

Examples of what it suggests

  • Performance: a shorter escape-time so Vim reacts instantly to Escape, and a longer history-limit.
  • Productivity: mouse support, numbering windows from 1, renumbering windows automatically, and a quick reload key.
  • Workflow: easier split keys, Vim-style pane navigation, faster session switching, and vi keys in copy mode.
  • Appearance and compatibility: true color, clearer pane borders, a different status bar position, clipboard integration, and better sizing when several screens share a session.

Limits

Suggestions come from fixed rules and patterns. The tool does not run tmux or look at your terminal, so treat suggestions as ideas to check, not as fixes that are guaranteed to work on your setup. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
