Which tool should I use?

  • New to tmux? Start with the interactive lessons to learn the default keys, then use the playground to practice them freely. When they feel natural, follow the getting started guide in a real terminal.
  • Don't have a config yet? The config generator builds a small, commented .tmux.conf from a few switches, such as mouse support and a longer scrollback.
  • Already have a config? Paste it into the validator to catch typos and options newer tmux no longer accepts, then try the local config checks for ideas worth adding.
  • Changing how tmux looks? The config preview draws your status bar and pane borders, so you can try colors before reloading tmux.
  • Something is broken? The troubleshooting guide covers clipboard, colors, SSH, and session problems, and the command reference explains every option.

Your config stays on your computer

Every tool on this page runs in your browser. Configs you paste or build are not uploaded, and lesson progress is saved only in this browser. You don't need an account for any of them.

The tools read your settings as text; they don't run tmux. After changing your config, let tmux itself check it with tmux source-file -n ~/.tmux.conf, which reports errors without applying anything, then reload with tmux source-file ~/.tmux.conf.
